E.coli O157 & Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome

Food and Farming intrerest more important than Public Health during E.Coli O157 outbreak in Central Scotland in 1996?

6th January 2013

Today the Herald on Sunday in Scotland newspaper reports that according to a memo in newly released files reveals the concerns that the interest of the food and agriculture industries were given higher priority than public health,  when the largest outbreak in the UK of E.Coli 0157 occurred in central Scotland [Wishaw] in 1996.

To read the full story see this article from Herald Scotland:

Food and farming interests 'more important' than public health during E-coli...

The charity would wish to thank the paper for running this story as it represents suffers of that outbreak and other outbreaks.  We believe that the food and agriculture  industries interest have been put first rather than that of the suffer or consumer. We believe that in terms of food safety policy issues they have to much sway over Government.
