East Sussex Respond to E.coli Outbreak

5th October 2006

A nursery in Brighton that cares for children of hospital staff has been struck with an outbreak of E.coli O157.  Three parents and 11 children have been affected, with 2 of the children developing HUS and requiring hospital attention.

In addition to following general outbreak guidelines, the Health Protection Agency has also implemented additional measures to prevent further person-to-person spread of the bacterium.
