* Fiona Imrie on Talking Scotland

Talking Scotland is a series of short programmes transmitted across Scottish TV and Grampian TV covering issues of importance to Scottish people.

The series is sponsored by the Scottish Executive and can be seen after the news bulletins at 3.05pm and 6.25pm on weekdays.

"Just before my son's third birthday, he became ill.

Fraser started to have diarrhoea and he was sick. He started to pass blood in his diarrhoea and ended up in hospital.

Within a few days he was in intensive care fighting for his life on numerous different life support machines. He remained in intensive care in a coma for a month and three months later we brought him home.

At that stage he had suffered brain damage and was severely disabled.

It was about 48 hours before we discovered that it was E.coli that had caused his illness.

I didn't know much about E.coli at all at that stage.

I think people just need to be aware that there are real dangers in the countryside and visiting animal farms, and they just have to be ever so careful. "
